Hotels in downtown DetroitHotels in downtown Detroit...staying in the downtown area is a great choice especially in the summer. You will be close to all the main events going on in the city.
The downtown Detroit area has a lot of great places to stay, and there are a variety of options to choose from.
During the warmer months, I love heading downtown for festvials, fireworks, and other events going on. So if you're visiting during these times, especially for an event or festival, staying in the downtown would be a good option for you.
Also being close to places like Campus Martius and the Detroit River Walk is a plus, not to mention great Detroit restaurants.
The downtown area is a fairly small area compared to bigger cities, so many things are within walking distance and you can also use the Detroit People Mover.
Your price range will of course affect where you stay. There are expensive and inexpensive hotels in the area and also a few with a good view of the Detroit River and Canada.
Overall though, you won't have a problem finding a hotel that suits your needs. If you are visiting during a big event such as the Auto Show or Detroit fireworks, some hotels run specials, but you will also want to book these rooms way in advance of the event...sometimes even a year beforehand as good rooms can be hard to come by at the last minute.
Below I have listed the hotels in downtown Detroit according to the district or area. I also have put $ signs next to the hotel so you can determine how cheap or expensive it is, but rates can change quickly so always check before you book.
These hotels offer great views and access to the Detroit River:
Detroit Marriott Renaissance Center $$ - This has been one of the more popular hotels in downtown Detroit for awhile now. It's the tallest hotel in the Western Hemisphere and offers stunning views of the Detroit River and Canada. If you can't get a room facing the river you can still get awesome views of the city. The hotel is also directly connected to the Detroit River Walk which is a great selling point.
Omni Hotel Detroit $$ - One of Detroit's more underrated hotels IMO, the Omni Hotel is also directly located on the Detroit River with access right to the Detroit River Walk. Now this hotel is not directly in downtown...maybe a 3-5 minute drive, but I decided to include it because there is a shuttle that offers free service to the downtown area.
Atheneum Hotel Detroit $$ - Another popular hotel located in the Greektown District. Close to shops, restaurants, and more.
Greektown Casino Detroit $$ - One of the newest additions to the area, you can enjoy your stay here and enjoy the casino and Greektown District of Detroit.
Book Cadillac Hotel $$$ - This has been the highest rated hotel in Detroit since the restoration of this historic building was completed in 2008. One of the more expensive hotels in the area, but the price is well worth the stay here.
