The Detroit Film Theater
Check out many films in the 1200 seat auditorium
So why check out the Detroit Film Theater? You can find an array of unique films that play all year round at the DIA. Check out showtime, prices, and more here. Even though there are many people who know about the Film Theater, I still feel like it's an underrated place to check out in Detroit. Of course most people know about the DIA (Detroit Institute of Arts), but many do not know about the 1200 seat Detroit Film Theater that is part of the museum as well. All throughout the year you can find plays, movies, lectures, and other performances that will definitely give you your fill of culture for the day. I've checked out a few shows and movies here, and it's always a good time for me and whoever I'm with.
It was built in 1927 and designed by famed architect Paul Phillipe Cret. Like a lot of buildings and theaters in Detroit that were built around this time, the architecture and design is just marbelous. Detroit is well known for it's architecture during this time, and the Detroit Film Theater is no exception. You can find tiles from Pewabic Pottery along the staircase as well as fountains and wrought iron grilles.
